The simple answer is, a domain the address people will find you online. Similar to your house address, it is simply an address and it is needed for you to be found.

Unlike hosting, domains do have a set range and you should not be paying more than $22-$25 per year for your domain.

Who can register a domain?

Domains can be registered by businesses who are contracted with domain registrars, such as Crazy Domains or Godaddy. Your website developer can also register a domain on your behalf.

Does a domain impact SEO?

Your domain can have an impact on your search ranking if you are using relevant keywords or branded words. Choosing a short and concise domain will result in more clicks, and using relevant keywords will result in higher ranking for those keyword/phrases.

It cannot negatively impact your SEO, so if your chosen business name or relevant keywords are not available, choose an alternative domain that’s easy to remember.

Can I have more than one domain?

Yes, you can have more than one domain. It is common practice once you register a business name to also register the domain names with the available extensions so other businesses do not use those. It isnt necessary and often times you will find that the domain is only available with .com or .com.au and not both.

What is the difference between .com and .com.au

Generally a .com.au domain is for Australian owned businesses and you need to have an ABN or ACN for your business to be eligible to get these.

Recently there has been some changes as to who is eligible to purchase the .com.au domain, and while this does not affect the SEO of your domain, it will add consumer/visitor confidence in your brand if you do have a .com.au as you now need to be BASED in Australia, not just have an ABN.

What about .edu.au or .org domains?
